Belle was our beautiful bitch from the Huck x Boo litter. Belle was very sweet and gave her all in whatever she did.
Belle like her mother Boo & great grandmother spent time with my oldest son, daughter in law ,& granddaughter. My son asked for a younger girl that maybe would have one last litter. She whelped that last litter here and sadly, when the pups were 3 weeks old, she developed mastitis which we rushed her to the emergency vet that night. We began treating her, sent a milk sample to be cultured. Each day, via emailed pictures, the vet monitored her condition. We added additional antibiotics and other medications along with warm & cold water showers, cold laser therapy, and cabbage leaves. Three days later, even though she was no longer “acting” ill, she required a mastectomy to remove the infected glands. Surgery went well and she was supposed to come home the next morning. It wasn’t meant to be – her heart stopped at 7:45 that morning and Belle passed despite the best immediate vet care. All of us were and still are devastated and heartbroken.
